Technology has the potential to transform every aspect of investment management, from front to back office and all the way through the distribution chain.
At the IA, we’re powering that transformation with our FinTech innovation hub and accelerator, Velocity, which last month began its search for a third cohort of cuttingedge FinTech firms. Velocity has gone from strength to strength in the year since its launch, with over 120 FinTech firms joining the IA as FinTech members. Ten of those firms have taken part in the Velocity accelerator programme, which provides expert support and advice from the Velocity Advisory Panel of industry leaders and a bespoke coworking space for firms to grow.
These firms highlight the global outlook of the UK’s FinTechs, with IA FinTech members operating in over 30 jurisdictions globally including: Europe, the United States, India, Singapore and Hong Kong.
But we know innovative FinTechs aren’t only found in London, and as we enter a new decade and Velocity’s second year of operation, we’re expanding Velocity outside of London with the creation of Velocity Birmingham.
Birmingham has a proud history of innovation, with a deep tech talent pool and a strong cluster of FinTechs, and was the natural choice to open our new leading FinTech centre.
This new venture, in collaboration with Wesleyan, a specialist financial services mutual, will be a state-of the-art FinTech hub right at the heart of Birmingham’s city centre, and will offer over thirty workstations, an auditorium, and meeting spaces for firms operating in Greater Birmingham and the West Midlands region.
